Two pioneering DJs, one mission to send the message the Women Are Watching. Hip-hop legend MC Lyte and DJ Samantha Ronson have joined forces to create this rockin’ playlist not only to get your female-empowered groove on, but to raise awareness in anticipation of next week’s election. The Spotify playlist is in collaboration with Women Are Watching and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund in an effort to motivate women to share their voice and get out and vote.

Via WomenareWatching.org:

“Women of color are pivotal in determining the outcome of this election,” said MC Lyte, who paved the way for female MCs in hip-hop. “I know how important it is to empower my community to get out the vote and what better way to do that than with my favorite female-powered music tracks?”

“Supporting sexual health is just common sense but using music to do that is a really different and exciting idea,” said Samantha Ronson, who has been a longtime supporter of women’s health and rights, and helped Planned Parenthood Action Fund get out the vote in the 2012 presidential election. “The more it helps motivate people to get off their asses, dance to the beat, and get to the polls, the better,” Ronson added.

Check out the Women are Watching Spotify playlist here. There aren’t too many surprises but it’s a pretty well-rounded kickass collection. And I’ve always thought Des’ree’s “You Gotta Be” never got its full due. Full tracklisting below.
